Outer Hip Pain with Running

Updated: Apr 9, 2023

Are you experiencing outer hip pain that is worsened with walking, stairs, squatting, crossing your legs, or laying on that side? There are muscles on the outer side of your pelvis known as gluteus medius and gluteus minimus that attach like a fan and insert down on to the greater trochanter of the femur or upper outer thigh bone. Many people loose flexibility and develop weakness in their gluteal muscles, which impacts their hip and lumbopelvic biomechanics, especially while standing on one leg.

There are specific exercises you can perform, along with education, and hands on techniques that can improve your hip range of motion, balance, motor control, muscular flexibility, and strength that will improve your function.

At Vitality Physical Therapy, you will have a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation to determine all the factors contributing to your limitations. We will create a plan to help you reach your goals. Treatment is always one-on-one, tailored specifically to you, and with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Prioritize your health and movement and give us a call today. 330-203-1078
